Can someone who orders the sample skeins tell me what you use them for. For some reason, I keep thinking about having all these neat little samples coming to my house, but I have no idea why the idea excites me! Do you save them up and mix them together? Do you swatch them for fun? Do set them around the house in baskets as decorations? Help, I may be just in shopping overload.

Connie,

The sample skeins are a lot of fun. I like being able to actually knit the offered yarns to see how they act, gauge, etc. I used some of my sample skeins to make the little gift bags in the picture on the left. I think they are good for mixing up, mosaics, small projects. Plus they are just cool. I have yarn sitting around my house in baskets, but it`s not for decoration, it`s UFOs! HA!

I think you need them Connie-after all, you do get store credit when you get them! I have crocheted flowers with mine and made a hat.

They ARE fun!

Has anyone ever knit anything using all of their sample skeins. I have one year`s worth and thought I would like to do something with them. Any ideas besides a scarf. I guess I would have to use similar thicknesses of the wool to make it work.
Thanks

Amy was making a log cabin blanket out of them but I dont know what ever became of that. Also, you could make those adorable Christmas Tree balls that Kelly made.

I`m still knitting along on that. I stop each square at 18" because after that you can`t get enough rows wiht each yarn to see how it will knit up.

I bought some of the bag of sample skeins that Elann sold a couple of years ago. Some of those I used with fingerless mittens which were quite popular. Now I have over 6 months` worth but not all in the same colors and haven`t thought of a good project for them. Hats, mittens, scarves and children`s items come to mind but we`ll see...

Libby, I like the idea of the Christmas balls. Think I`ll look into that. I just found a paattern for tiny sweaters as ornaments but I think they would take much more yarn. Again, I`ll look into it.
Many thanks for everyone`s advice.
