I am almost finished a pair of socks for me in a bulky`ish handspun. I started the on Christmas and knit one. I planned to knit the second on Boxing Day and wear them all around, but it didn`t quite work out. Second one is nearly done.
I`m also working on a pair of socks for my beloved therapist (who now keeps her mouth shut about knitting, Billie).
And I have a few pieces done on a Cuzco version of DD`s sweater that will be for ME.
I think all these will be my main gig for January.
And, y`all??

Hi Jayne! It`s nice to have you around again! DD looks very happy in her new sweater, your mitts are gorgeous and your hand dyed rovings look divine!
I`m finishing a few projects and debating what to start next. I feel like I`m in a Ravelry induced paralysis--so many things that I`d like to make. Guess I`d better finish up my 2007 UFO`s so I can start 2008 knitting with a clear conscience!
Can`t wait to see your Cusco jacket!
Happy new year!

Shedir, for a KAL, last night I started the second repeat, row 20-something. The fiddly twist stitches are giving my hands fits, so only a few rows at at time. I`m doing this in light blue Rowan Cashmerino DK
A slightly-widened version of the feather-and-fan Misty Garden scarf, in Cherry Tree Hill`s Sockittome, in colors that are quite like abalone, all lavenders and greens and blues.
Started a pair of mitts in Cascade`s Cloud 9 yesterday, for our honorary DGD; these have a lace panel on the back of the hand, matching the pretty hat I made for her using Knitty`s `Madge` pattern. EASY lace cap, my friends.

I`ve started the cabled Lopi sweater, but with a 6 cable pattern done with 3 different colors plus the MC, this could be a Lifer. So far, it`s not fun. BUT MY ENTRELAC SHAWL IS!!!! And I can`t put the silly thing down!

Lifer project + Not fun = Frogging/neglect (in my vocab anyway). You might be more determined than I am, Billie.
Thanks, Kellygirl! :)

Jayne, I LOVE those gloves you knitted in the handspun Etsy yarn. (that sweater looked pretty cozy too).
I`m working on Trinket (ruched and ruffled scarf kit from Kim Hargreaves, 3 balls Kidsilk Haze) and plan on making a couple more over the year to gift in Christmas `08. But I`ll use Silken Kydd instead of KSH (which is why I hope they bring back that red colour, or I`ll be begging Jayne for dying info and will just dye my own).
Several pair of fingerless mitts have flown off the needles in anticipation of cold weather.
Dish cloths for eldest daughter, with a VW Bug pattern knitted into them. She has a vintage bug and was thrilled with the one I gave her at Christmas, so at the rate of one a night she`ll get at least a couple more.
Working on finishing several OLD hang arounds (CeCe, from chicknits. Vintage V-neck from Lily Chin. These two have sat in the basket far too long). Anxious to begin a wedding shawl as a gift for future sis-in-law (summer wedding in their backyard).
I love Ravelry because it`s forcing me to really see what I have on the needles and what I want to start. I haven`t bothered much with entering my yarn stash (I have it in an excel spreadsheet already and that works well for me). But for pattern organization and queuing, Ravelry is really helping me see the trees in forest!
Minor meltdown this fall meant pretty much no knitting for several months, so it feels good to be knitting again.

Great Projects!! I love it that your DD#1 has an old Bug. Good for DD#1, though remembering the wimpy heating system, I expect she`s in need of scarves and hats and gloves to keep from freezing.
My first car was a `59 - 36hp. Oh, the stories of traveling with the VeeWee, pulling over to let semi`s pass me on steep uphill grades, for instance, lol.

I had a 71 Bug with a scary gas heater. Hers is a 61 Ragtop (powder blue) that she is slowly restoring. It has the wicker shelf in the front, under the dash! She keeps one of the dishclothes I made in the car for wiping the moisture off the inside of the windows - remember having to do that? I got really good at driving, while shifting, while wiping down the window so I could see to drive. I still miss my bug...
She does say the bug is better for summer driving, when it`s not so COLD outside!

I`m making an easy-peasy top-down sweater for my son with a yarn from Ironstone, 50/50 wool and acrylic. I really need to get moving on finishing my Victoria Cardigan, and I am thinking about an aran sweater with Sierra Aran.

I am about a third of the way through the Modern Quilt Wrap. I LOVE how it is turning out in the Silken Kydd Palatte. I am about a 3/4 through a SunRay for MIL but it is on sabatical at the moment. I just finished Spiraling Corialis socks from the Cat Bordhi book. I am trying to restrain myself from casting on Les` Cassiday hat pattern tonight, but she finished so fast maybe it won`t be a huge distraction.

It`s called Tank Top, from Erica Knight`s Classic Knits...but I think of it as a vest, since it uses Rowan Big Wool and has a deep-V neck so you`d always wear it with something underneath. I`m doing it in Big Wool Fusion, the bright pink that looks like cotton candy, the effect may be a little overwhelming, but it IS fun to knit. Jayne, I love that sweater you knit your daughter, I can see why she calls it her sleep-over sweater, the yarn is so soft and cushy!

I just finished an Irish hiking scarf for my surgeon. I used Sierra Aran, That yarn is so wonderful to knit. Now I give the scarf and bath and a block and finish Central Park Hoodie for DGD. Onward!

I seem to be doing a lot of casting on and ripping out right this sec. I went thru a lot of my patterns today. That was actually pretty helpful, inspiration-wise.

Benne, Is that Sierra Aran next-to-skin soft for a scarf? I got the impression from my snips that it might be too scratchy for that. Otherwise I would get some for scarves since it comes in some beautiful colors.
I finally got motivated enough to re-cast-on for my Mom`s vest. I Started it in November and had to frog it because it was too small. I do hope I can finish it before the next Ice Age.

Marie, I love the Sierra Aran, but don`t find it next-to-the-skin soft - but I am very sensitive in that regard. I also think that the perception of softness in a yarn is inversely correlated to the ambient temperature, that is, the higher the latter, the less soft the yarn will seem. So I guess where your recipient lives may be a factor. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

Sandra,
I mae that exact tank top, in the same yarn, even the same color! It`s a really easy, fast knit, and it looks great, too.

Sounds like Winter is good knitting time! So many projects. I am about half way thru the Wool Peddler`s Shawl, swatching for a shawl for my CA hostess in Alpaca Fina, and always a couple of smaller projects like mittens and other small items! Also daily spinning and soon to have something on the floor loom, like a tencel scarf. Lots of free time for a while. Jamie

How very interesting. I never really noticed that before. Never would have thought temperature could have an effect on softness or perceived softness. I`ll have to pay more attention when I`m wearing my scarf. I`ve been wearing my scarf made of Elann Superwash Merino DK and it always feels soft. I should try knitting a hat with it to see if I have that slight itch factor around my forehead, which I experience with my wool hat knit with a different yarn.
