Ok, my brain is fried. I am working on a prayer shawl that is supposed to be worked in the round. The pattern comes from Gathering of Lace and the book is at home. Here`s my question: When you are reading a chart and you are working in the round, do you read it all right to left OR do you read row 1 right to left and row 2 left to right.

Grace, thanks so much for your help. I am working on a shawl from Gathering of Lace and I don`t understand something on the border. it says "yo, yo on next rnd drop 1 yo and k1" I can`t wrap my head around those instructions. Can you help?

grace, you ARE a pro when it comes to knitting shawls! I can`t believe that I`ve gotten this far, put it down for awhile and now I can`t figure out how to finish it off. Let`s hope the book has some tips in it when I check it tonight.
Thanks for helping D.

I am so not Grace nor experienced with lace knitting, but is it possible that this is one of those things that needs another comma? Maybe they mean "yo, yo, on next rnd drop 1yo and k1". That would mean a double yo (yo, yo) and then when you drop one loop the next round, you`d have an extra-large/long hole. Just a guess here.

I will check the book when I get home. I am working from a copy of the pattern and it very well may have another comma. Thanks again.

I`ve flipped through "A Gathering of Lace" and think you are knitting Meg Swansen`s `Super-Spiral Shawl`. The black dot symbol does indeed mean YO, YO. Then on the row you knit into the drop the first YO and knit the second one to make the big holes in the close-up photo. In the instruction key at the side of the page in my edition, there`s a faint semi-colon (;) after the Yo, yo before the rest of the instruction - it needs to be there.
Yo,yo; on the next rnd drop 1 yo and k1 into the remaining yo.
If this is not the shawl you are knitting, post again and I`ll try to help.

Yes Alice, that`s the one. I made a copy of the pattern as it`s so much easier to bring back and forth to work. I guess my copier didn`t pick up the comma. Thank you so much for looking that up for me.
