It has come to my attention that I really need an organizational system. I mean, I really need a sort of Day-Timer-Filofax-Franklin system that I can write things in with a pen or pencil.
The problem is that I am not a salesman keeping track of calls or an executive keeping track of meetings. I am a mother keeping track of my own writing, knitting, diet, teaching and friends: my sons` therapists, teachers, and lessons, and the household`s budget and meals.
So - futile question, probably, but has anyone ever seen a system that could accomodate all that? One. Not a separate food diary, knitting diary, and schedule, but some thing that can take it all?
I don`t want, need, or have money for a PDA and I would almost certainly never use it. The thing with a pencil stands a much greater chance of actually being used.
Thank you all in advance for your brilliant and innovative suggestions. I always know I can count on you!

This sounds so wrong it may probably be useful-use the front or side of your fridge to deal with things that take place in the kitchen (the daily point total, grocery list, or whatever). Use a dry erase marker. For the rest, I suggest a fairly large day planner (5X7).

Flylady`s calendar gets rave reviews from busy families. I think the website is www.flylady.net. Cate

T, have a look at a teacher`s day book - available in any educational materials store and must be on-line somewhere. The ones for high school teachers come with horizonal sections for each period in the school day with a space at the bottom of the page for special reminders. The book comes spiral bound or punched for a binder with a heavy `cover stock` cover and each day has a double page. You could have food, knitting, children, appointments, etc, etc instead of periods. Paper is good quality so you can erase if you write in pencil. Cost in Canada is between $5-10. No pictures, no pretty things, just a practical book.

T-I use a medical appt schedule book. Available through Medical Arts Press I believe, only about 15$, spiral bound...too large to lose, but you can basicallyy customize it and it breaks the day down into 15 min increments with space at top and bottom of each day for other important stuff. Then tape or glue a same size manila envelope into the inside back cover to hold your receipts, new knitting patterns that you want to try etc. (basically anything you need a temporary holding spot for) ...i`ve tried everything from soup to nutz...i mean palm pilots to dayrunners and this works best for me.

I know that this is way out of my league - giving organizational advise.... but, I can`t get away from the little pocket (Mine is a 2 year) calender to keep track of appts. Write small, you can keep track of a lot of things. It also holds names addresses etc directions to Dr. offices etc. In it`s cover I keep stamps and other important items. I don`t want to carry something big with me all the time. I have mine right here - I am in the second year of it, paid a whole 59cents for it and bought it because the cats on the front look just like mine. Then I have a plastic accordian type folder - like a 12 x6" that I have divided into catagories, Like you might have one for bills that need to be paid, coupons you want to use, new recipies, shopping list or whatever. Easy to carry from car to house so you have it with you. If you are like me, I wont use it if I don`t have it with me Good luck, when you find the solution, let us all know. Oh.. another thing that I have used, but I am not sure where you can get one, our school system gave them to the teachers and it was a calender, like the little pocket ones, just a bit bigger. Not too big for the pocket book or bag, but more writing space.

I may end up trying all of these ideas. I just have way too much to keep in a confused head anymore... And I will certainly report back!
