Well as if I haven`t had enough challenges for the past several years, I have my first for 2005. Two weeks ago this Friday, my boss and division head called me into a meeting to tell me that because I do not have a license, I am being moved to a non-therapy position in March out of my program where I have been for 19 years. This effects about 30 therapists in Mont. Co. we either missed the grandfather period as I did, or we have MA or MS degrees that are not licensable. I have been working to meet the criteria I have needed for my license for the past two years PT. The Board knows of my situation and has told me that as long as I am working towards compliance there is no problem. However, the Attorney General in MD has decided this will not fly and things are changing very quickly without much warning. Luckily, I have a Union that is going to try its best to help us get extensions in order to get into compliance and to get us some financial help or time from work to get done.

So this week I have registered for 9 graduate credits and I`m applying to take the licensing exam in May. If absolutely everything goes my way, i will be licensed by July. I am now in class two nights a week and one course is an independant study in Art Therapy. Therefore, I have not had time to log onto the site much, and when I do, I read comments and keep up with everyone, but I don`t have time to respond. I just want you all to know you are knitting some awesome and inspiring knitwear and I have enjoyed looking at it and hearing about it. I will try to log on when I can, as this group gives me a lot of strength and support. But please don`t think I don`t care or I have dropped out. One positive way to look at this is that if I get my extension and I have the time to finish, it will all be over soon. Thanks in advance for all your postive energy, prayers or whatever you choose to do. It`s all appreciated.

Oh, Pat, what a drag! It`s not as if you weren`t making a good attempt to work + take the appropriate courses!
I wish you strength, boundless energy and a darned good union rep!
We won`t forget you - just drop a couple of lines now and then to let us know how it`s going.

PatW,
I`ll be thinking of you and hoping that you get an extension or make it through your course work and exam--I`m sure it is not pleasant to have an unreasonable deadline imposed by a bureacrat distant from the situation. You will prevail!

Aw, Pat, that`s one of those, this is not fair things. Hang in there girlfriend, either way I know you will get where you need to be in this but I hope, for you, it`s the least tiresome way. Just because you don`t log on doesn`t mean I don`t think about you. I`ll keep you high on my "folks you need to help out" list with the Big Guy.:-}

Wow-

And YOU pay the Attorney General`s salary! Hmmph, don`t you just WISH you could change THOSE job requirements on a whim?

But it`s almost February, and you will be done at the end of May-120 days, and you`ll be free to "whooop up on" as much yarn as you want. Study hard so you can get this-we`ll still be here!

Dear Pat,
What a mess! If there`s anything I can do to help, let me know. Us grad students gotta stick together!!

Too bad I had to declare FL residency so we could vote vicious St. Atty out of office.

Why is it that people who aren`t even in a field decided that pieces of paper are going to make you better at what you do? Whatever happened to evidence based decisions? In what way is this going to make you better at your job? Enough railiing, I`m sure you have done your share. Good luck with the school work, it is hard to go back AND maintain your day work. We`ll be thinking of you. Daryl

Oh Pat, sorry you have had all this hassle. Is there any chance that the goverment will ever think before acting?
Good luck with school. I know how hard school + work are.

Condolences and best wishes... and I do have one teeny-tiny question... "independant study in Art Therapy"... couldn`t that be... uh.. knitting???? It`s art! It`s therapy! It`s physical! And you sure can study it independently! (Just trying to find the silver-birch lining here!)
