Look at the pic of the Katia Beetle Pullover in the Elann free patterns section. the neck of that sweater has the same issue as MacChicklets sleeveless sweater. Notice that it curves in too!! I guess it is a fashion element after all!!

About MacChicklet`s sweater being stiff - I suddenly recalled you hang your wash to dy in the nice, hygienic sunshine. Some cottons that are stiff when dryed this way are nice and soft when dried in the dirty, germ-incubating dryer... Does not dolve the pilling problem, but might make the girl`s sweater more comfortable, at least.

I just looked at the picture of the Beetle pullover... Ha-Ha! That`s pretty funny! Yah, yah... it`s done on purpose as a fashion FEATURE... that`s it! But seriously, DD knows what she requested, wears the stuff no matter how it comes out, but wants re-makes until she gets what she requested...
Right now I`m stalling her with the bit about waiting for the Esprit... which I AM going to use for the turtleneck re-make... but my real problem in not starting it now with some Sonanta is time... that darned "Casual Cables" variation... I have ripped it out AGAIN, because this time I changed my mind on the cable design... I think I want to use the "Highlighted Cables" from BWalker`s 1st Treasury, alternately with a 4-st cable... this makes about 7 rip-outs for idea changes now.... thankfully the Alpaca is holding up well to all of this... I was concerned about that... Alpaca doesn`t have quite the "memory" that wool has, but so far, so good. I need to finish it by the middle of April... it`s a gift!
Putting the Cotton-Tots in a clothes dryer might soften them a little... I`d made matching leg-warmers, too, and I took these to the laundromat for just such an experiment. The results were disappointing, but there WAS some improvement. You are right about line-drying making clothes stiffer, but I have a little trick for that... of course Ma Nature has to help... a good, hard, blustery wind works just like a dryer as far as softening goes... as long as it isn`t sand-storm velocity. My resolution on the Cotton Tots yarn is that it`s best used for something that just plain won`t need to be washed very often.... because it is never the same again after that first meeting with water. I should`ve used it for hats... how often do you need to wash a hat? Certainly not after every wearing. And that is a nice use for really soft yarn. And, man, was that stuff soft when new!!!
I, for one, am just not going to buy any more of it... we are madly designing for Sonata around this house lately, anyway... while waiting for me to finish up the Peruvian Collection projects ("No, honey, I did NOT get too much wool... trust me...") And I will post a picture of the Pink T-Neck Re-make, incorporatng the great suffestions everyone here offered... as soon as I`ve knitted it up.
But I do have to finish this Alpaca sweater first. (And I`m not halfway through the Fisherman Sweater for my Mom yet, but I`ll catch up on that one later... when is Mother`s Day this year? how much time do I have left? Why do I always get myself into these predicaments?) And then I have to do a remake of the Tvaandsstickning ballerina hat... that came out badly... I realy should post a photo of it for laughs... need more time... aah... I`ll just read a few more posts here... wonder why I have less knitting time these days... better make some more pancakes, I guess!

Les,
DH didn`t tell you it was there?! What`s up with that?! Maybe he was hoping you wouldn`t see it. And follow the natural progresssion of (1) see pattern you like (2) see yarn you like (3) order yarn from Elann immediately (4) box arrives promptly from Elann at store. Like Bets` post about us being able to smell fear, we can also smell knitting mags. Guess his little plan didn`t work! lol Benne

I was just rereading biographies trying to avoid doing any real work and realized that you grew up in Burlington Vermont, heading off to college just about the same time I was. Did you by any chance know Nancy Chickering? She was one of my best friends in school, would have been a year ahead of you, I thought she was from Burlington, but could be wrong. Daryl

No, I did not... there were an awful lot of elementary schools in that city, though, we lived in the North End (the bad part of town) & went to the J.J. Flynn School. My Dad moved us all out of there to Underhill, a little farming community about 60 miles North-Northeast of the city when I was 11 years old, so I never got beyond the elementary school in Burlington. Being a High School teacher, my Dad could see what was ahead for us kids and didn`t want to lose us to that... high rate of teen pregnancies and drug overdoses in that area durng the late 60`s and so on. Probably not as bad as other, bigger cities, but our family bailed out of that scene and went for the ultra-tiny town in dairy country. But it does seem you and I have parallel lives in many ways, doesn`t it?

I think Nancy and her sisters may have even been home schooled for a number of years due to some of the same concerns as your parents. I know she went to public high school, only because she did gymnastics there. I think of Nancy often when I read your posts, or when they are particularly resonating with me at that moment in time. We do seem to have some strong parallels. We haven`t indulged in ballet pink, but Santa did bring yarn for the girls to make their own leg warmers. And the post in which you described wending a somewhat tortuous path between projects in process struck a strong chord. I only wish I had been home more, earlier, to do more of those projects before the other enticements of ballet class, piano practice and friends became so enthralling. daryl

Um, I realize that only showed 3 items, but none were particulary earthshattering. (I noticed the top does not have raglans, so it`s not an issue)

It wasn`t about buying the mag, it was a similarity issue in the white sweater...
