Ho ho -oh no!
Ok cats and chicks, the truth is out-the guy with the red suit will be here in 90 days!!! What`s on your needles?
Last year, I knitted to the point WAYYYY beyond enjoyment-this year, I have my MIL`s sweater on the needles, I have the Outback sweater on needles, and I will probably do a few things on the Bond. Other than that, tough beans! I think I may make a few things for myself!
I found some nice free patterns on Lana Grossa`s site, those are certainly worth browsing, now that Diane has pointed the way to pattern size conversions.
So what`s your plan for Christmas? Anyone got any whiz-bang budget gifts that are made in a flash?? (Besides garter stitch scarves on turkey basters...)

Yikes! I have a bit of a problem with people like you keeping track of time. LOL! My method of survival is "flying by the seat of my pants" - it seems to work!!! I just got a new job, doubling my out of store jobs, to 40 hours per month - so must get myself organized! When we were on SP island, we went to the fall fair. We all bought somthing at the alpaca yarn booth. 100g skeins of yarn in natural colours - yum. I liked a hat- already knit (rows of 7 sts. lace between 2 rows of purl) in cream (natural) handspun yarn. but It was kinda pricey. Oh, this is hilarious,...... Heather heard it was 13 dollars but it was 30 dollars which I knew but didn`t know she thought it was $13. so, she enabled me and I bought it!! It is quite lovely, and I would love to figure out the pattern and make one or two...... It is very fine and soft. something you could just stuff in your pocket. I have located an alpaca farm out here with yarn to sell, in the boonies where I have to travel for work. I may make some little lacy hats for my local buddies. i think I`d also like to make some felted bags, too, for xmas. Basically, just little things. Les

I decided I was out of my mind with all the projects I planned. I am going to do the Not Your Mother`s Coats for my DD`s, casual cables in alpaca for MIL (already started one sleeve, easy to work on at the *&^#%@$#&$# dentist, DMM`s fingerless gloves and if I get those done, some ponchos on the Bond maybe. I too am cutting back big time. I do think I could do some belts since they only take a couple of hours. I do not want to ruin my love of knitting or Christmas with all that pressure. BTW, I`m a heck of a shot, I could shoot down the sleigh so we can have a few more days while the Big Guy in Red hitches a ride. Note: no reindeer will be harmed, I`ll just shoot out his runners. ;-} B2

ARGH!! Why did you remind me??? My youngest brother`s birthday tie turned into a Christmas present. The narrow part seems endless. I was thinking of knitting some gloves for my brother. My family is very small and my friends & I don`t do a big gift exchange. My sister does not wear hats, scarves, gloves, socks, shawls, ponchos & is too hot for sweaters. Maybe when her personal summer is over I will be able to knit something for her. I am going to knit an Einstein for my ex-husband (obviously no sweater curse in effect). I have to wait for the weather to get colder. It will probably be a birthday present - he was born on New Year`s. My assistant is thinking of knitting beer cosies. She found them in a beginner knitting book. Cate

Bets,
Here is the update on the wretched socks....I`m almost done with one sock then I have to make the match for it.....and that is just ONE....did I mention that its just the ONE????? And I have to make some for my 2 brothers, my dad, my father-in-law, and my sisters husband. Thats just the guys....I`m thinking that Cate is onto something with the beer cozies.
Now the girls are going to be much more fun. They are going to get a moebius scarf. Which of course I have to raid the stash for but I have such a yummy selection to choose from. I have to knit the moebius for my mom, sister, sister-in-law and maybe my aunts if they are lucky ( but they might just get the shaft this yr). I am almost done with the one I decided will be for my sister but I ran out of yarn and am going to the LYS to get some more. Its Berroco Hush in oranges and reds which she really likes. Then the one for my mom is going to be from the plymouth mohair and I`m thinking a very sofisticated rayon one for my sister in law. As for my mom in law I`m not sure what to do hers in but I`m certain that it will be something dressy as she is in Atlanta and its not cold enough there for something to warm. But then again when I was there for Christmas time it was quite chilly so maybe a mohair one for her as well. I guess that I`ll just have to wait and see what I`m inspired to do at the time.

Hi Best thing I`ve found lately is those little bags - thanks to whichever knitter latched onto the idea - just big enough to hold glasses, car keys, and a little money. One ball of Sari varigated ribbon makes a bag - about 100 yards.
Finished bag is about 4 1/2 inches wide by 7 inches long, with I-cord to hang it around your neck.
Essentially, knit a flap - a triangle, scallop, or whatever, increasing to 24 stitches, then knit the body until you reach 14 inches long, cast off, knit I-cord long enough to go around your neck and hang in a suitable place, cast off (or use commercial cord). Sew sides, attach cord, make a loop with the end from the cast on, sew on a bead or a button, and you`re done. I knitted the first one all in seed stitch, but for the second one, I knitted the flap in garter stitch. Any stitch pattern that shows off the variations in the yarn would be fine. I am using needles a couple of sizes smaller than suggested on the yarn band to make the purse really firm.
DD thought they looked great, and put dibs on the second one, so they appeal to the younger crowd, too.

Hello! Christmas so soon!! Hey, don`t knock those garter stitch eyelash (et.al.) scarves. Some people think they are wonderful! I have been knitting them in my sleep, it seems, for the past couple of years. I sold a lot and other served as great gifts. I used to knit sweaters but now that`s a huge profect! ALso working on purses (bags), hats, mittens, shawls and even a vest perhaps for sales and presents! I make tree ornaments from inkle weaving as well as miniature hats and mittens. The little mini-hats, made of dog hair, are popular with several friends and customers. Fall is coming and knitting feels just right again. Happy knitting, Jamie

Oh, I`m NOT knocking those garter stitch scarves-I think they are just fine, and even made one recently-I was just trying to think of OTHER things to make that are that simple.
Chris was making one of those little bags recently, Alice-she had some PRETTY Noro, and was doing a slip stitch type pattern.

Hi Bets, To tell the truth I am really tired of garter stitch scarves, and have branched out to some other projects. I have possible three sales this fall and need stock! Bags and ponchos are also popular. I just wanted to express my love and amazement for the popular scarves; I keep finding new yarns to try! Bets, you do incredible knitting (and you work full time too, don`t you?)! Happy knitting, Jamie

Hi!
Why thank you! I have plenty of UFOs too. My family is old enough to start supper on their own-and since I am the first one out the door and the last one home, I figure if no one took anything out of the freezer, they must want a sandwich. I am not the only one around here with opposable thumbs.
I just wanted to keep my eyes peeled for new "doesn`t take a lot of time or yarn" ideas. Alice`s little cell phone bags are a good idea, as are Benne`s belts. (I`ll put in another plug for the Diamond vest-500 yards on size 10s!)
I took DD to the LYS (ok, she condescended to go) and she took one look at all those scarves and said "Hey you could wear these as belts!" I offered to buy a kit, then it dawned on her "Oh, you gotta make them," in a far less enthusiastic tone. Ah well. I don`t know how anyone can live in the same house as I do and NOT be enthusiastic about it. DH was very proud when Alice first posted one of my pictures (apparently, he looks at knitting magazines in the bathroom!) but my kid is immune!

Hi Bets, I am filling time on an empty stomach before a medical test today, so here`s some more chatter. I have two DDs, long gone from the home nest, but they never expressed much interest in knitted projects. I had some success in the 70s with some warm wool ponchos - twice as the years passed. ALso made them each lovely mohair sweaters and perhaps one or two other sweaters. They did use the poncho and wore the sweaters. They also more mom-made mittens and perhaps a hat if it got really cold. I guess I must admit that they did like my finished projects, but I can`t remember them ever asking me to make things for them; perhaps they did and I just don`t remember. I have knit so much for so many years, after a while all the projects become a blur. My exDH even took a weaving class and was then able to help me warp the loom (now I have to do it alone!). Now that I am retired I am having trouble finishing big projects. Your idea for eliciting suggestions for small items was a good one. Thanks. Have a good week. Jamie
