Well, I finally succumbed today and ordered it in raspberry! I`m thinking of the free pattern on this site only making it cropped for a more flattering fit, for the uh, more mature figure. Also longer sleeves to cover more of the upper arms. The Rams Wool catalog on page 2 has a cropped shell made from this yarn with an eyelet pattern around the midriff. In any case, I`m thinking some open work would be nice to lighten up the bulkiness of the yarn.

Well, Sandra, after much chewing of my lower lip about which color to get, I bought the natural. I wanted the apricot and the red and the lavender and all of them. I`m going to make the turtleneck with a twist in The Purl Stitch by Sally Melville except I think I`ll make it a cowl neck instead. What do you think? You probably know turtlenecks give me a case of the vapors but this one doesn`t look too tight. The only thing I wondered about a cowl neck was that it might look too heavy for summer. I need input!

Hi!

Sandra...we must make it a point to never appear in the same place at the same time, because that`s EXACTLY what I was planning on, except I hadn`t considered the body length.

Betsy, who also bought rasberry, and was planning to make her sleeves 2" longer

I`m doing the free top in turquoise for a friend back home, and an aran in deepest blue for my husband - maybe the "Casey" clan aran that I tea-leafed off a website earlier in the year, lol! (Oh, for everyone I have just confused - it`s rhyming slang at home. Tea leaf = thief. It`s also used as a verb). Oh, that reminds me of an expression that popped out of my mouth last night, and made me imjmediately think of Benne and her woes last week. DH was winding me up on purpose (the cheeky fecker was making fun of my Scrabbble words - we are scrabble addicts and such a thing is heresy in this house), and I turned to him and snapped, "Keep going and I`ll give you your head in your hands!" I think it`s one you should all keep on file, just for novelty factor! LOL

Eileen.

Benne - Oh, I love that Sharon Stone sweater. And, I love that collar as is! Take a deep breath and wear it!! Of course I live where a turtleneck can be summer wear!! Our evenings get very cool in the summer - mountain air ya know, and the sun doesn`t set til about 10:30 pm so we are often outside in the evening. Restaurants here have high standing propane heaters on their outdoor patios to keep the wine drinkers happy.

I am planning to make a couple of tank tops for my girls 17yo and 20yo (on April 4) out of the raspberry and the turquoise maybe like the Koko pattern Mara posted- they can fight about who gets which one, and maybe the T-shirt shown on the site in the Lapis. I did this without consulting the girls as they can`t see beyond the colour of a garment in a pattern pic or the length of something in the pic. GRRRR! That makes 3 for two girls - hmmm, how do I get out of that one. maybe they can share the T. They are both about the same size but the younger one has bigger boobs than the older one!!!! We`re talking about a 34" chest on the larger one and the older one has great shoulders!! (They`d kill me if they read this!!!!) I`d better stop!

I was kind of set on Melville`s sleeveless turtleneck, too, but in swatching, I found that I could either tighten up the gauge (a lot) and see the 3X1 ribbing clearly, or get gauge and have the ribbing sort of disappear into the thick-thin texture of the stitches. Maybe on the entire surface of the sweater, and at a distance, it would look OK?

For my little ones (and a friend`s), I`m making the "Missy" button-up jumper from the Berroco pattern site`s selection of "freebies". For my pre-teen, a "scaled down" eyelet tank from the Weekend Crafter knitting book.

These projects subject to change as my kids grow and outgrow the original concepts. <sigh>

Hi LisaB,

Glad to hear your input on the Melville pattern. I`ll keep your experience in mind. All projects are subject to constant change aren`t they? We`re knitting as fast as we can but we can`t keep up, especially with growing children. If we could just get Rumplestiltskin in to knit at night while we`re sleeping. lol

Benne,
I agree with Les, I do like the collar with the twist in it. Of course, it is also subject to what the yarn "wants" to do--I remember reading Maggie Righetti saying something like that in her "Knitting in Plain English" book: she would knit a swatch and the yarn would tell her what it wanted to be. At the time I didn`t take it seriously, but after a couple of bad experiences I`m going to concentrate more on the swatching phase. I think the natural will look terrific and as a bonus will go with everything!
