Has anyone used this??

I thought it looked like a "light" cotton as opposed to a heavy cotton that would sag (a bit like, as MacChick said, a nicer version of Cotton Tots) - is this true?

I was thinking a summer sweater for DH might be nice - have to do something for him after him sending me all those flowers out of the blue yesterday, lol. But it`s listed as bulky weight - though I thought it seemed more like a chunky - is this true? Will it be too heavy in the summer? Will it droop and sag and stretch as an adult long-sleeved sweater??

In a quandary

Eileen.

You know what`s going to happen, Bets - all these vixens will hold off on the report until they`ve hoarded all the nice colours - only leaving the ones that we wouldn`t want anyway! LOL

Hmmmm-
You want green, which is barely in my closet...I want blue or red. If they smoke us, we`re comatose....hmm, I DO have a pre-pay....

I saw this stuff in person today, in a store where a mere 8 or 9 dollars a skein is the cheap stuff, and it looked very nice...it looked like cotton...it seemed pretty soft...It did not strike me as LESS likely to sag than other cottons, but it did look sweet and comfy...
My current thinking on cotton is that while you read that you should have a nice firm ribbing to hold it in at the bottom, the bubble-over-a-band look was not the best of the 80`s for me, and that if you don`t rib it will sag more evenly all over and not be so noticeable...What do you folks think?

Okay, kids, I`m still on the fence about this yarn. Maybe I`ll hold back with the rest of you until all the good stuff is gone. I really want the natural but I have got to stop ordering natural. I have ivory, alabaster, cream, tan, etc. The other side of me wants the red and the purple and the apricot and the gold and on and on. I being strong. I have lots of yarn. Listen to me trying to talk myself out of it. I have to save my money for Maryland where I plan on being as outrageous as Theresa and Eileen will enable me to be.
I think that means I`m in big trouble. lol

Okay - you girls do know the good colors are going fast - right? The tangerine is already gone. Not to mention all the weekend warriors that visit this site on Saturday and Sunday (has anybody else noticed how depleted the stock can be on Monday).

Just in case you needed a little nudging...... I can`t be the ONLY one with NO self control around here! lol! But I REALLY do NEED a blueberry colored sweater to match my blue tent awnings, blue table cloth, blue toenail polish, etc., etc......

Corinna,

Speaking of blueberries, I just noticed that Elann has added knitting note cards this morning, and BLUE HEAVEN would be perfect for you!

Have a good day

Corinna, That`s so funny about the blueberries. When Dan and I first got together we were in Maine in the woods in a cabin called "Blueberry Hill". Honest to God! lol. That`s what the little brass plate on the door said. So... our "song" is ... "I found my thrill... on Blueberry Hill..." lol. We still kid around about blueberries.

We went back there a few years later when Daniel was almost a year old. We decided it`s haunted and will never go back. lol A rocking chair just started rocking by itself one night. You never saw two people pack so fast the next morning. lol. It was the owner`s father`s house before he passed away and they had other cabins for rent scattered through the woods.

And Jean will have to buy Peace! The cards are lovely but I need to work through the stack I have now (sent by various charities trying to solicit donations).

That`s a funny story about the ghost. As long as he wasn`t hurting anybody you could have stayed. I`m glad I`m not the only one who has had ghostly encounters.

As far as the blue theme at my booth - my customers expect it now. This will be the 5th year and they know that when everything at the booth turns blue the blueberries are ripe! The first thing they ask is "Let`s what color blue the toesies are this year!"

Och that wee cattie is such a dote!

Do you think if I had pics of our myriad cats printed up on nice paper, I could make $14.95 a pop???? LOL

I was just at my LYS and they had a giant bin of this yarn. I dove into the bin to touch it all and it is very soft.....and the yarn has a nice texture...but the best part are the colors!!! They are all so pretty!!! I was originally just getting antique pink but have now gotten some spearmint, lilac and raspberry!!! i am going to make tank tops for myself and my 2 girls (i will make DD`s a little shorter so you can see thier cute little bellies!) The colors are actually a little bit softer then they appear on my monitor and they are just so darn pretty!!!.....so if you are thinking about it or really like a certain color I hope this will help....as for the cotton stretch factor I really dont know how it will be with this yarn.....I will find out soon enough.

So you`re the one who got the last of the Antique pink... well, hope you`re happy with it, `cause it`s all gone now... and the spearmint is almost gone, too. You got it just in time!!!

Look, I`m pretty frugal... I only got one each of the turquoise and the raspberry to make a top for DD, but I really love the natural and the lapis, and I had a vivd dream that the natural was gone... I mean when I looked for it last night IT WAS ALL GONE, I tell ya! Now it appears it is there after all, but I`m calling that a premonition... and Farmin`s right about the weekends... how many times have I missed a yarn thinking "I`ll wait and put it in with my order for the yarn that is coming out on Tuesday..." but by Monday it`s already too late.

No, it isn`t mercerized, but that doesn`t neccessarily mean it is going to shrink alot, either. I mean, how many times have you worked wth cotton and had the opposite problem over time and wished it WOULD shrink back to its original size?

However, I`m very glad you brought that issue up, because I`m generally so focused on trying to come up with ways so it won`t stretch out, that I wouldn`t have thought about the shrinkage possibility. So, thanks to you, I`m going to not just knit a swatch (I`m actually persnickety about always doing that), but test wash it every possible way, too, measuring before and after each wash to see if it shrinks vertically, horizontally, or neither. I`m betting it won`t shrink at all, but that`s just a hunch.

The test I`m most eager to try is whether it will pill. That seems so often to be the side effect of soft yarns... but not always, Pima and Egyptian cottons can be very soft without pilling (maybe because the fibers are longer?), so I can`t wait to see.

Do the "pin it and see if it droops test" too! I think the pima and Eygptiah have longer fibers...but do you actually have a pill test?

Pill test = washing machine, several times, even if you have no earthly intention of EVER sending the final garment through the machine... the swatch though... I rub it with sand paper, send it through the machine, tuck it under my heel inside my sneaker and go for a jog, any abusive & abrasive thing I can think of...

Some yarns (like Uros) will fuzz and felt for all they are worth but staunchly refuse to pill. I admire that kind of spunk! Good yarn. Some (like Sonata) snub their noses at every test and keep on insisting they are still brand-new. I call that Grace Under Fire, and buy more of it. Some say, "Honey get out your sweater shavers and any other thing ya got, but you`ll never get all the little balls off me, never!!!" You can guess what I say to them. And then there are those ones that start pilling while I am still knitting with them... I use them for stuffing in toys... what else can you do with them?
