Anyone have any experience with Scarlet fever? PLB has had a fever since yesterday and now is getting a very bumpy rash on her torso. I`m thinking scarlet fever?

The rash of scarlet fever usually begins like a bad sunburn with tiny bumps (papules), and it may itch. The rash usually appears first on the neck and face, often leaving a clear unaffected area around the mouth. It spreads to the chest and back, then to the rest of the body. In body creases, especially around the underarms and elbows, the rash forms classic red streaks called Pastia`s lines. Areas of rash usually blanch (turn white) when you press on them.
I took that off the `net. Could be all sorts of things, but scarlet fever seems unlikely. Scarletina is more common, as are all sorts of other rashes including variations of measles. Believe me, I`m no doctor. Temp? Cough? Sore throat?

It`s huge over here. I kept Joseph home from German Kindergarten on Friday because they had three cases of it this past week. I thought no one got it anymore. I did a search on the web Thursday night and came up with this: http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/scarlet_fever.html
Good luck!

A couple of my kids had it when they were younger. The name insites fear into the masses, but really, it`s just Strep with a rash. Years ago, before antibiotics, Scarlet Fever was something which required a QUARANTINE notice tacked to a homes front door (happened to my mom when she was little) and the patient was usually hospitalized. Yes, it was serious because of the possibility of the complication Rheumatic Fever. You don`t want to mess around with it. See a Dr. and get the patient on antibiotics and finish them all!! Just Last week, I thought DD Claire had it - fever, rash on front and back torso, sore throat, lethargy..... took her to the doc who took a throat swab but suspected that it was a viral thing. I assume it was, as we didn`t hear back that the swab was positive. But have you ever had the feeling that they might have lost that result......................? ;-} She`s better now and played basketball all weekend! Les

We ended up in a Children`s Urgent care facility after the peditrician oncall refused to call me in antibiotics. It is scarlet fever so they both got shots last night. We`re in isolation until Monday but DS is doing better this am (although his legs hurt from the shots). PLB is still abed (at 11:15am!!!!) but she doesn`t have a fever anymore! I guess today is a day of rest and recuperation!!!!

Isn`t modern medicine a wonderful thing? Please tell PLB and DS that we all feel TERRIBLy sorry for them feeling lousy, and said you should play board games with them ALL DAY LONG! Well, no, not really, one board game probably feels like all day long to you at this point, so we`ll let you off with that (although we really do feel sorry for all of you.) If I recall, the big deal about rheumatic fever was that it could lead to heart complications, so here is my totally unnecessary two cents - agree, finish the antibiotic (Right, like you weren`t going to - that`s why my 2 cents is totally unecessary.) Oh, and they cannot play with the Macchicklet until they are both feeling perfectly better (lol - sometimes I wonder if the kids in the gallery photos are sort of like the people in Harry Potter wizard pictures - sort of able to move from frame to frame, visit, etc. Although if that is true I really ought to post a photo of Tim - he`s missing all the fun.) Best wixhes for everyone`s health... Theresa, who does know what it is like to worry about sick kid.
