I`ll have to look for my back issue and find the pattern. It`s been a dream of mine for a couple years to actually make a lacy crochet top like yours. What yarn did you use? Was there side shaping involved? How would you rank this pattern as far as difficulty? I`ve crocheted round potholders and a worsted wt vest in a shell pattern--but nothing as delicate and doily like as this!

Thanks Sandra! It was very easy to do - I hadn`t crocheted for years when I made it, and even when I had, I`d never made any "real" garments - just flat things like doilies and afghans. There`s no side shaping or sewing - it`s basically a square design, and about 100 of them are crocheted together as you go. Then you do the edging.
I used a DK On Linie cotton/acrylic blend from here called "Padua" - it had a nice cotton feel, but can be machine washed. 5 50g balls were enough - so you could always get a really special, expensive yarn, seeing as you don`t need to get much of it.
This was for my friend Hazel back home - she actually taught me to crochet, and she was always trying to get around to doing a black lacy cardigan for herself. Lately, she had been looking for a see through crochet dress to wear over a black leather bra-top and leather mini skirt - so I knew she`d love this. She wears it going out clubbing all the time, and gets a lot of compliments - it`s not your Granny`s crochet any more! LOL

PS I just remembered - my Mum asked me to do one for her (to wear over a camisole "lining", of course!) and I took some pictures of it as I was going along (still haven`t finished it). Great looking crochet top Eileen. You know in the 70`s I might have worn that without the lining. Just would have depended on where the motifs ended up. lol It really does look terrific.

I love it! And can you picture it, oversized, in that denim cotton, as something to put on over your bathing suit at the beach? My daughter thinks I should make her a cape like that... "With every flower a different color..." I think I would need to do a few of those 5-pots-of-tea marathons to accomplish THAT!)
