Sadly, what I`ve read is that the bad eating habits of the US have spread to many countries whose people used to eat healthily. DH and I keep under control partly because we`re tired of upsizing our clothes, and mostly because our doctors really fuss at us about cholesterol and weight gain.

Congratulations to all of you. Sounds like you all have the eating thing under control. I sat in a few shopping malls observing many people who don`t have your good sense when it comes to eating. So sad...the expected length of life has been shortened with the current generation, and that is the first time in history that has happened. They need to slow down and
listen to their bodies, and then get back to the simpler style of living. My own kids are guilty but how do we emphasize that they don`t need "everything" right now. They want it all....the things we worked years for. My kids al live in big beautiful houses and have all the extras but I wonder if they really enjoy getting stuff like we did when we had to wait for them. I could ramble on about this for hours but I have to get at my knitting.
Evelyn

Thank you for the good wishes, Evelyn. I don`t think we`ve gained more than a pound or 2 over the holidays these last few years. Like Benne, DH and I don`t go to holiday parties, which probably helps a lot. In the T-Day supplies I carried home on Monday, there was only fresh produce and a turkey, with one pie shell - Penzeys has a recipe for an apple/pumpkin pie that just was irresistible - pie is a major treat for us.

Not doing holiday cooking really helps cut down on holiday eating and weight gain. ;) That`s my story and I`m sticking to it. We lead such a quiet lifestyle, simple meals, almost never eat out, so I don`t really notice the holidays too much. We used to attend lots of holiday parties and do a lot of entertaining and there was lots more temptation. This year is guaranteed to be especially quiet.

benne

Lol, Evelyn! Good advice, though! I am lucky I get tired of sweet things after a bite or two - except for dark chocolate, that is...
Thanks for the good wishes. I am headed to your neck of the woods - actually, just Toronto - next week to visit my mother at her LTC. Hoping there will be no snowstorms this time, beautiful though they can be.

Marta

We were in your beautiful country for the last 2 weeks and I taught our DIL how to make a turkey dinner with all the fixings. It turned out really good.
Then I came home to my Weight Care Center and the doc there this morning told me that the average US citizen will gain approximately 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Take it easy my friends. You all have to live a long life to be able to use up all your stash.
Evelyn
